Course Title: Multicultural Series for Prevention Professionals: European American Cultures-Working with persons of European descent and those immersed in European American Culture

This workshop provides 6 hours of training for those working in a prevention setting in behavioral /mental health. Those involved in prevention program planning, implementation, and evaluation who are seeking more information about working with persons of European descent. This training will deliver information and interactive activities.

 

         European American Culture in a historical and contemporary context. The multiplicity of European American groups and how these groups have been influenced by history, war and oppression, immigration/migration, family structure, child rearing patterns, communication styles, spirituality and religion, health practices, and poverty.

          Risk and protective factors for the behavioral and mental health of European Americans, with emphasis on the individual groups.

 

          The impacts of individual European American customs and culture  upon wellness and illness in prevention, treatment and recovery. The clinical importance of understanding and addressing the cultural/ethnic differences among European Americans.

         Working with individuals, families and communities: how to communicate effectively and provide respectful and appropriate services and resources.

 

This interactive training is limited up to 25 participants to allow for activities, dialogue and information and resource exchanges.

  • Lunch is available for $8.00 through this site, or you may bring your own lunch, or buy lunch outside our offices. Lunch is to be held from 12pm-1pm. You may stay here at this time if you would like to eat with colleagues or just to network!
  • In case of cancellations or changes, attendees will be notified by email if possible. A message will also be left at MLI (203-691-1486) by 7 am on the day of the event.

  • This event is Free  under a grant from the Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services (DMHAS)

*Refunds for the luncheon will not be made past 5 days prior to event. Refunds prior to this date will be subject to a $1.00 fee.

There may be a waiting list for this event and we ask only those that can committ to attending will register for the event, to be fair to others. ATTENTION PREVENTION PROVIDERS:  This is a training open to all, but especially for DMHAS funded prevention providers, SPF-SIG/BP and PFS grantees and their members, that should help you apply theory to your SPF-SIG/BP/PFS practice and steps if you are in these categories. If you are not a DMHAS-Funded prevention program provider nor receive these particular program/ grant funds, you are still welcome to attend as it will be relevant to your own work.
